Twenty three people injured in bus-car crash in south central Pennsylvania

Twenty-three children and adults were hurt yesterday afternoon in a bus-car accident that occurred on Interstate 81 in south central Pennsylvania. An initial investigation showed the accident may have been caused by a swerving car that tried to pass the bus. Thankfully, all 23 people who were injured in the highway crash were discharged. The bus and car accident should serve as a reminder to all drivers on Pennsylvania roads to be aware and mindful of other vehicles on the road.

The school bus and car accident occurred around 4:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon near Exit 17 on Interstate 81 in Guilford Township, Pennsylvania. A group of children and adults were traveling on a school bus from Cumberland Valley Christian School. The 22 children and adults were on their way to a church camp in Quakertown, Pennsylvania when the highway crash occurred.

As the bus was traveling northbound on Interstate 81, a Cadillac driven by a 79-year-old man attempted to pass the bus. Initially, the Cadillac tried to pass the bus from behind. As the driver of the Cadillac attempted to pass the bus, the driver did not see another vehicle in the left-hand lane. The driver of the Cadillac took evasive action and spun out in front of the bus. The bus hit the passenger-side of the Cadillac. The Cadillac traveled into the ditch, and the bus hit a guardrail and flipped onto its roof.

Twenty-three people were injured in the crash. Seventeen children and five adults were traveling on the bus. Three children had to be freed from the wreckage of the bus, and the driver of the Cadillac had to be freed as well. Fortunately, injuries sustained from the crash were minor including bruises, cuts and fractures. All twenty-three people were taken to two nearby hospitals. So far, no charges have been filed regarding the accident.
