A recall of airbags created by Takata Corporation and used in many Honda vehicles has been expanded to over a million of Honda's most popular vehicles. The Takata Corporation airbags are being recalled because the ammonium nitrate propellant used in the air bags has been determined to burn too quickly. This can cause them to blow apart a metal canister and send shrapnel out, injuring passengers and drivers. The defective airbags have been the cause of at least seven deaths and 100 injuries. The recall has recently been expanded to 2001 to 2005 Honda Civics and 2003 to 2007 Honda Accords.

In May of 2015, Takata Corporation declared that 33.8 million airbags were being recalled. This includes airbags in cars and trucks made by 11 automakers. Honda has recalled 21 million total vehicles.

Just last week, Honda confirmed that a Louisiana woman was the seventh victim that was tragically killed as a result of the defective airbags. The 22 year old Lafayette, Louisiana woman died four days after her 2005 Honda Accord crashed into a utility pole and the faulty airbag went off.
