Truck accidents are an all too regular occurrence throughout the nation. Though the outcome is often devastating to those involved, few receive the media coverage that the incident involving comedian Tracy Morgan and a Wal-Mart truck did.
In a previous post we wrote about the serious traumatic brain injury the comedian suffered when the truck crashed into the vehicle in which he was a passenger. The force of the impact injured several others besides Morgan and killed one man. Morgan’s lawyer indicated that the injuries he suffered in the collision nearly killed him.
The crash was allegedly due to the fact that the driver of the truck fell asleep while driving. That driver was accused of failing to sleep for over 24 hours and speeding—more than 20 miles over the speed limit.
Several weeks after the accident, the comedian filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart. In it, he sought compensation for his injuries. Recently it was announced that the lawsuit settled. Though the amount has not been disclosed, Morgan’s lawyer indicates that he did receive financial compensation as a part of it.
One does not need to be a well-known comedian to take legal action following an injury inducing accident. The option may be available to anyone who has been hurt in a crash that is the result of negligence on the part of another. As is the case with most legal matters the best place to start when pursuing a personal injury claim is with a lawyer who understands how these claims work.
