In previous posts we have written about the danger of falling objects on construction sites. This is not the only place where this could happen however. This was illustrated in a workplace accident that recently occurred in Pennsylvania. A 30-year-old man who was working at a meat-processing plant was injured while working.
The man was struck in the head when a pallet of ham fell. According to one source, the pallet had three dozen hams each weighing 20 pounds. The pallet hit him on his head.
Following the incident the man was transported via helicopter to a hospital. Though the severity of his injuries is not known, as readers are probably aware, head injuries can be very serious. While in some cases people who suffer head injuries quickly recover, other times, a traumatic brain injury can change the life of the person suffering from it forever.
It is currently unclear what cause the pallet to fall upon the man. Regardless of the cause however, the man may be able to secure workers' compensation benefits to cover expenses while he is unable to work. To get these benefits an application must be filed and accepted. Unfortunately, the benefits are not always initially granted. In these situations a lawyer may be of assistance.
A lawyer could also help if the injuries were the result of negligence on the part of another person or entity. In this situation a personal injury lawsuit may be viable. If successful, it could result in the injured worker receiving damages from the party responsible for the injury inducing accident occurring.
