On August 14, 2014, Ciana Cahill was in a devastating motor vehicle accident that has left her permanently injured. On I-79 South near Neville Island, a semi-truck rolled over causing a 2 mile traffic backup. Ciana was forced to stop her vehicle in traffic as a result of the tractor-trailer rollover. After Ciana came to a stop, she was rear-ended by a Mercedes SUV. She was subsequently transported to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition with a head injury.
Since the accident, Ciana has undergone 15 surgeries. She has had parts of her skull removed to relieve swelling in her brain and has overcome brain bleeds, a collapsed lung, and many more difficulties presented by her brain injury. With the help of her family and friends, Ciana has fought and continues to fight through all the injuries and complications she suffered in this tragic accident.
The next step on Ciana's pathway to recovery is moving home. Her insurance has nearly run out during her stay at The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh and because of this, her family is looking to make the needed modifications to their home. The Cahill family will need a new driveway to accommodate a wheelchair, wider hallways, and a walk-in shower. Their goal is to raise $100,000.00 to aid with these upgrades.
