A man on his motorcycle from Boardman, Ohio was killed on Saturday night. The accident happened along Ohio State Route 53 in Portage Township shortly before 11:00 p.m.
Police told reporters that a 53-year-old man and his 49-year-old wife were travelling along Route 53 on the man's motorcycle when a pick-up truck driven by a 53-year-old woman made a left-hand turn from the northbound lane directly into the path of the victim and his wife.
When the man's motorcycle hit the pick-up truck, the driver of the truck and her 37-year-old male passenger were ejected from the truck. Then, a motorcycle driving behind the first motorcycle ran into the first motorcycle, knocking both people off the bike.
The driver of the pick-up truck and passenger on the victim's motorcycle were Life-Flighted to St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo, Ohio with what police said were serious injuries. The man driving the second motorcycle and his passenger were both taken via ambulance to Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio with non-life-threatening injuries.
The man driving the first motorcycle died at the scene of the accident. He and the other three motorcyclists were wearing helmets during the accident. The two people in the pick-up truck were not wearing their seatbelts. Police say that they do not believe alcohol or drugs had anything to do with the crash. A small section of Route 53 was closed for nearly four hours while first responders cleared the scene.
