A disturbing scene unfolded in Butler County on Wednesday night when a 38-year-old deranged man drove head on into a 36-year-old mother of three. The collision caused both drivers to die. The accident happened along Route 68 in Forward Township. Police are investigating to see if the man caused the accident on purpose, which may be the case considering a conversation the man had with police shortly before the accident took place.
Police told reporters that the 38-year-old man drove his Dodge Neon from his estranged ex-girlfriend's home on Westview Drive. The man was apparently breaking the orders of a PFA that his ex-girlfriend had on him. Before leaving the woman's home, police say that the man threw rocks and bricks through the woman's windows before he got onto Route 68 and got into the accident.
The woman called police while the man was trying to get into her home. He left before they arrived, but called when police got there. The woman handed a police officer the phone when the officer told the woman that he wanted to talk to the man and attempt to calm him down. The man then told the police officer that he wasn't returning to the home to talk to police and said, "You'll read about me in the paper tomorrow."
The woman the man hit, a 36-year-old Butler native and mother of three children, was driving home from work when the accident happened. Her youngest is only one and half. A friend of the woman described her as "…an amazing mother, wife, and friend." One first responder said it was one of the worst wreck scenes he has ever come upon.
As the investigation into whether or not the crash was intentionally committed as a murder/suicide, three kids go to bed tonight and for the rest of their lives without a mom.
