BMW warns of engine failure, recalls cars and SUVs

BMW, otherwise known as Bavarian Motor Works, is a Germain luxury automaker that specializes in automobiles, motorcycles, and engine manufacturing. BMW owns and builds vehicles and parts for other car brands as well, such as Mini Cooper and Rolls Royce. Although it was originally an airplane manufacturer, evident by its world-famous "white propeller in a blue sky" emblem, BMW is now one of the world's most successful automobile manufacturers and produces close to two million vehicles per year.

BMW is currently recalling more than 155,000 cars and SUVs in the United States due to the manufacturing of defective products in the vehicles. Some estimates say the number is closer to 160,000. BMW admits that, in certain vehicle types, the engine can stall or lose power. In addition, another 170,000 vehicles built between 2010 and 2012 will not be recalled, but will fall under an extended warranty.

The BMW recall covers three years of manufacturing, from 2010 to 2012, and includes eleven different vehicle types. The cars included in the recall list are the 640i, 535i, 528i, 335i, 328i, 135i, 128i, and the sporty Z4. SUV recalls include the X6, X5, and X3.

BMW says that certain bolts put in place to hold the camshaft enclosure components together can become loose and break off completely over time. This malfunction can cause the vehicle to lose power or stall. The loss of power can increase your chances of an accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a statement that BMW dealers will replace the bolts for free and the official recall should begin at some point in May.

Car manufacturing conglomerates such as BMW owe it to their customers to provide a certain level of safety and care. When they develop products and components for those products that are unsatisfactory, or that can cause harm to the consumer, these are unforgiveable acts of negligence that should have been fixed before the vehicle was ever presented on a showroom floor. If you have been injured as a result of one of these BMWs, then please contact the defective product attorneys at Dallas W. Hartman, P.C. today at 800-777-4081 for a free preliminary consultation.
