Police are looking for whomever hit and killed a pedestrian, then fled the scene of the accident late Friday evening in Shenango Township, Lawrence County. Not much information is known as this time, but officers are investigating.
Police say it looked as though the 55-year-old man was walking alongside Route 422 / Benjamin Franklin Highway when he was struck by the vehicle. The suspect drove away after hitting the man. There were no other witnesses, so officers are unable to provide a description of the suspect's vehicle.
Investigators are searching for anyone who may have what happened or who may have information as to the whereabouts of the driver.
Hit-and-run accidents and deaths seem to have been happening in droves this winter in western Pennsylvania. Most hit-and-run accident take place at night or in the dark hours of the morning. Remember, it is safest to walk facing traffic and pay close attention to what drivers are doing on the road ahead of you. Also, if you're going to be walking, try to stay on roads that have sidewalks, only cross at designated crosswalks and intersections, and wear reflective attire when walking during dark hours.
