An 8-year-old was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident on Saturday in Lower Burrell, according to local police. The boy and his babysitter were crossing the street when an SUV hit them, injuring both.
Police have not identified the little boy, but did say that he was flown to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh via Life-Flight. According to police, the accident happened at around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Rita Avenue and Leechburg Road.
A Lower Burrell policeman told reporters that a 2007 Ford Explorer, driven by a 43-year-old man, also from Lower Burrell, hit the little boy and his 38-year-old babysitter as they crossed Leechburg Road near Rita Avenue.
Police have not said that there was any foul play, but did say that the boy and his babysitter were wearing dark clothing, possibly making it difficult for the driver to see the pair, especially because of the rain.
The babysitter was treated at a nearby hospital and released with minor injuries, but the condition of the little boy is unknown and has not yet been updated.
