One man killed in South Side collision

A two-vehicle accident in Pittsburgh's South Side on Thursday morning has left one man dead.

Police say the accident happened at around 5 a.m. along the 2900 block of East Carson Street near the Hot Metal Street Bridge. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the 47-year-old Greenfield man Thursday morning shortly after he died. He was pronounced dead about forty-five minutes after the accident.

Police are still not sure exactly what caused the crash, but do not believe that road conditions or alcohol had anything to do with the collision.

The victim was taken to UPMC Presby in Oakland. The autopsy revealed that he died from blunt force trauma to his head and upper body. East Carson Street was closed while first responders and clean-up crews cleared the scene. The other driver was said to have sustained minor injuries and was interviewed by police in an attempt to figure out exactly how the accident happened. The incident remains under investigation.
