A single-vehicle accident early Friday morning in Millcreek Township in Erie has left one person injured and another in police custody today.
Police and ambulance personnel were called to the scene of the accident at around 12:30 a.m. along the 4600 block of Lancaster Road near Moffat Field.
According to local police, the truck in the accident was driven by a McKean, Pennsylvania man heading south on Lancaster Road. He lost control of the truck, hit a snow bank, gas marker, and utility pole, respectively. The Pennsylvania Electric Company was called to the scene to repair the utility pole and National Fuel also showed up to inspect the possibility of punctured gas lines. No lines were destroyed, according to police.
The woman in the vehicle was taken to UPMC Hamot via ambulance to be treated for injuries, but her current condition is unknown. Police have not said why they took the man into custody, but reporters assumed that he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Lancaster Road was closed while clean-up crews cleared the scene of the accident. More information about the driver's condition and the passenger should be made available some time this weekend.
