Two people were hurt on Sunday afternoon when their vehicles crashed head on in Girard, Ohio.
Local police told reporters that a Mercury Milan was travelling on a rural section of Tibbets Wick Road between Edwards Street and Pleasant Valley Road. The accident took place early Sunday afternoon when the driver of the Milan crossed the center double yellow lane and crashed head on into a Buick Rendezvous.
There were no passengers in either vehicle, but both drivers were immediately taken to St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. The names of the two drivers are being withheld until a full investigation has been completed.
Police say they are not yet sure if icy road conditions had anything to do with the accident, but did acknowledge that snow and ice blanketed much of the area, including Tibbets Wick Road, on Sunday morning. When asked if the Mercury was attempting to pass another driver on the stretch of Tibbets Wick where passing is legal, police were unsure and said that they would be releasing an official statement as soon as their investigation is complete. Police also refused to give the conditions of both drivers until they felt they had all of the facts.
Icy roads abound throughout Ohio, from Youngstown's inner-city to the rural outlays. Please use extreme caution when navigating our roadways and don't attempt any move that bears even the slimmest chance of causing an accident.
