6 injured in Carrick school van crash

Six people were hurt on Thursday morning when a Carrick School District van collided with another vehicle, according to an Allegheny County dispatch controller.

The accident took place in a residential area at the intersection of Waterman Avenue and Hopeland Street, just off of Becks Run Road, at around 7:45 a.m., according to police. A Pittsburgh Public School spokesperson told reporters that two student and the driver of the van were injured in the accident and were taken to UPMC Mercy via ambulance. The two students were treated and eventually released.

Two other students in the van were taken to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh to be treated. One of the children was released and the other's condition is not yet known. Police are investigating the cause of the accident and have not yet said whether or not poor road conditions had anything to do with what happened.

The driver of the van will undergo the necessary drug testing, but no foul play is being indicated as of yet. The driver's condition was not available as of Thursday evening.
