State police report that they think alcohol may have been involved in a single-vehicle car accident. The accident happened just before 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Butler, was killed when he was ejected from the vehicle during multiple rollovers. Two other men, a 23-year-old from Chicora and a 23-year-old from Butler, were injured in the accident.
Police say the 24-year-old East Butler man was driving his Ford F-150 in Clarion Township when the accident happened. The crash took place on Greenville Pike, just north of Stone House Road, less than a few miles from Clarion University. Authorities say the man was navigating a bend when he lost control of the truck and slid off the right side of the road. The truck rolled several times, ejecting and killing the driver, and injuring his two passengers. PA State Police say the two injured men were wearing their seatbelts, but that the driver was not.
Tragedies such as this are especially difficult to hear about around the holidays. Poor choices and the decision to place others' lives in danger is a story we hear far too often. With Christmas behind us and New Year's Eve in just a few days, please take the time to think about what safety measures you will take to ensure you and your passengers will arrive at your destination unharmed. If you're going to drink alcohol, don't drive. Don't let misfortune like this happen to you. This New Year's Eve, have a designated driver, a reliable taxi service, or a place to stay within walking distance if you're going to drink alcohol.
