A man had to be rescued from his car following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Crane Road and Lay Road last Friday, October 18, around 9:30am. He was taken to UPMC Hamot to be treated and did not appear to be seriously injured.
The man taken to the hospital is reported to have not fully stopped at the intersection and failed to look both ways before turning from Lay onto Crane. The other driver, who was fortunately not injured in the accident, said that the driver made a rolling stop through the intersection. The uninjured driver said the man then pulled out without looking and there was no time to avoid the collision.
Officials are not sure why the man rolled into the intersection without completely stopping and suspect he may have either been distracted or just simply not paying attention. On the rural roads and busy intersections of northwestern PA, it is essential that people pay attention to their surroundings at all times, whether driving or as a pedestrian. Accidents, such as this, can be life-threatening and often do end with fatalities. Fortunately, for this driver, he is resting at home tonight, but others aren't so lucky.
