Most of the time, we write about workplace injuries or workplaces that are not taking the steps necessary to provide workers a safe environment in which to do their job. While there are plenty of workplaces that fail to implement safety measures, others in the state of Pennsylvania are doing a good job on that front. In this post we will write about one such business in the state.
A Western Pennsylvania steel plant was recently recognized for its safety efforts by the U.S. Department of Labor. The MLP Steel Plant was named as part of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Safety and Health Achievement Program. Management at the facility credits the workers for making membership into SHARP possible. The company tried for several years to achieve the status before it succeeded.
More specifically, one of the steel plant's two locations was bestowed that honor. The other one also has a good track record when it comes to safety however. More than 100,000 hours have passed since the last worker was injured in an incident that required him or her to miss work at that location.
Due to the nature of the work done at steel plants, most incidents that result in injuries are considered industrial accidents. When an accident does occur at one of these workplaces, it is possible that the injured worker will seek worker's compensation benefits as a result of the injuries suffered. While this is of course a good option whatever the field of work, where industrial accidents are concerned workers are likely particularly happy that such benefits exist. This is due to the serious nature of the injuries that are usually inflicted when such an accident occurs.
