Yesterday, just outside of North Beaver in Lawrence County on State Line Road on the border between Pennsylvania and Ohio, six people were injured in an automobile accident. A man, his wife, and their three children–one of whom is an infant–were smashed into by another vehicle at around 8pm.
A 19-year-old man from New Middletown, Ohio is said to have been driving while intoxicated and failed to recognize a stop sign at the intersection of Stateline Road and West Poland Ave. The young man's Buick barreled into the family's minivan, T-boning the driver's side.
The young man is being charged by Pennsylvania police with aggravated assault by a vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol, underage possession of alcohol, reckless and careless driving, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana. After he failed the field sobriety test and drugs were found in his Buick, the young man was taken to Jamestown Hospital in New Castle, PA for a hand injury.
The family–a 45-year-old man, his 31-year-old wife, their 5-year-old, 3-year-old, and 6-month old–are all said to have suffered injuries that range from serious to minor. Some family members were flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Ohio and others were taken by ambulance, but no details have been given as to who was life-flighted and who was driven.
