Any motor vehicle accident that results in a loss of life is tragic in nature. Those that result from the negligent acts of another driver, however, are especially difficult to bear. The family of a 58-year-old Ohio woman was recently devastated to learn that their loved one died after being hit by a car. According to the police report, the woman was believed to be walking home when the fatal pedestrian accident occurred. She was struck by an SUV around 9 p.m. as she attempted to cross the street.
After hitting the woman, the driver of the SUV left the accident scene. Thankfully, eye witnesses were able to provide police with identifying information and a 67-year-old man who was believed to have been driving the SUV that hit and killed the woman was arrested at approximately 2:40 a.m.
Police believe the 67-year-old driver had been drinking at the time of the accident. He has currently been charged with felony hit-skip and other criminal charges are likely forthcoming. Additionally, it's possible that the family of the 58-year-old woman who was hit and killed may choose to take legal action.
In cases where a loved one's death is caused by the negligent acts of another individual, family members may choose to file a wrongful death claim. Taking this type of legal action often helps family members obtain answers and find closure. Additionally, monies awarded through a wrongful death claim can help family members pay unexpected costs and expenses that are often associated with a sudden and tragic death.
