Individuals employed as drivers of large commercial trucks and vehicles often drive several hours per day for work. In many cases, drivers of taxis, busses, dump trucks or semi trucks encounter various types of dangerous driving conditions. Inclement weather and hazardous road construction zones provide for some of the most challenging driving conditions. In many cases, however, commercial vehicles are involved in accidents involving other motor vehicles when driving conditions are perfect.
A 27-year-old delivery truck driver was recently involved in a two-vehicle accident along a Ohio highway. According to the accident report, the accident occurred as the 27-year-old was driving south. At this same time, a 16-year-old driver was stopped at a stop sign and waiting to make a left hand turn onto the highway.
The teen driver told police that she looked both ways prior to pulling onto the highway. She contends the delivery truck was in her blind spot and she therefore failed to see the approaching vehicle until it was too late.
The 16-year-old pulled out right in front of the deliver truck. In an attempt to avoid hitting the teen's side driver door, the 27-year-old delivery truck driver swerved and instead crashed into the front of the teen's car. The force of the impact caused the 16-year-old to sustain serious neck injuries.
The young teen was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. She was also cited by police for failing to yield. Luckily in this case those drivers involved sustained only relatively minor injuries. In many commercial vehicle accidents, impacted drivers and passengers sustain serious and even life-threatening injuries.
