Electrocution at construction site leaves one dead, another injured

Every job in the Pittsburgh is accompanied by certain risks. While many of those risks could lead to minor workplace injuries, in some cases more serious injuries are the end result, including death. Construction sites are often the sites of more serious workplace injuries.

construction accident occurred earlier this week in another state. The incident involved electricity and two workers were electrocuted. Sadly one of them died. At the time of the incident the men were in the process of installing siding on a building.

Authorities indicate the men were installing the siding on an apartment building and were over 20 feet in the air. The 44-year-old worker reportedly made contact with a power line with his head. Though he apparently survived the initial incident, he died at the hospital where his injuries were being treated. Another worker was injured in the incident as well. It is not clear how that individual was hurt but after treatment, that person was released from the hospital.

When a worker is engaging in an activity above ground, interaction with power lines is a safety issue that must be addressed. When the proper safety precautions are not taken, such as the apparent case here, a tragedy such as this one may occur.

When a worker dies in the course of his or her job the loss can be difficult for his or her loved ones to deal with. What may have been a request for workers' compensation benefits had the worker lived sometimes becomes a civil wrongful death lawsuit.
