It was not all that long ago that stories regarding an explosion at a business housing chemicals in the southern part of the country were in the headlines. Earlier this week a story broke regarding another such blast in a different southern state. While the incident did not occur in Pennsylvania, individuals who work at similar types of businesses are likely playing close attention.
The explosion took place at a chemical plant that makes the highly flammable gasses propylene and ethylene, located near Baton Rouge. The incident occurred in the morning when workers were already at work for the day. It is not clear how many employees the plant regularly employs.
What is clear is that more than 30 people were injured in the explosion and were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Several of the injured individuals were transported via helicopter. The nature of the injuries suffered is not known.
In situations such as this one it is not uncommon for injured workers to need time to heal. During that time they may not be able to work. Fortunately they can seek workers' compensation benefits to help cover the time they are away from work. When the injuries result in a permanent disability, long-term benefits may be available.
The aftermath of an industrial accident such as this one can be far reaching leaving many matters besides the physical injuries to be addressed. This can be difficult to handle on one's own. For that reason some find it helpful to work with a workers' compensation lawyer.
