For many residents of Pennsylvania, there is nothing more enjoyable than spending the day or evening at a casino in front of a slot machine. While many who participate in this activity likely have ideas about how they would like the visit to end-preferably with a nice bundle of money-it is fair to say that few expect to leave the vicinity injured, due to ways in which the casino is maintained.
That thought became a reality for a 56-year-old Pennsylvania man several years ago however. He was reportedly quite seriously hurt when the defective chair the man was sitting in, collapsed, causing him to fall out of it. His injuries reportedly affected his:
- Head
- Neck
- Back
- Shoulder
- Arms
- Legs
- Torso
Because his injuries were characterized as "traumatic" and debilitating, the man and his wife recently filed a lawsuit against the popular casino, the company that made the defective chair and the business that was responsible for constructing the building in which the casino was housed. In the lawsuit, the man sought compensation for his injuries. His wife sued for loss of, among other things, companionship.
The case may be aided by the fact that the chair's collapse was caught on video. Its back apparently suddenly became unattached making it possible for the man to fall.
When something that is used by consumers causes someone to be injured as a result of a defect, the injured party may decide to file a products liability lawsuit. Financial damages recovered in a successful case could be used for many expenses that have accumulated as a result of the injury, including medical bills.
