Readers of this blog are probably aware that workplace injuries are an unfortunate, all too common occurrence throughout the nation. While many of those instances are a result of things such as repetitive stress, at times the injury producing accident is much more dramatic. One such incident that could have lead to serious injuries occurred earlier this week in Uniontown.
A sandwich order may have been responsible for at least one worker at a convenience store making it through the strange work accident unscathed. As two employees were performing various tasks associated with their job, a pickup truck drove through the front door of the store while two individuals were working.
It is fair to say that this is not something that most workers think about happening while performing one's job. Most would agree that workers should not have to think about it. Rather employers should take the steps necessary to keep their workers safe. It is not going out on a limb in this case however to say that it is hard to anticipate a strange accident such as this one occurring.
While all are undoubtedly relieved that the incident did not leave anyone injured, had either man been hurt in the crash, it is possible that they would have been able to obtain worker's compensation benefits from their employer. This is due to the fact that most employers throughout the state of Pennsylvania must purchase a workers' compensation insurance policy to provide benefits to workers who are hurt while working.
