Whether accidental or deliberate, when drivers fail to abide by traffic laws they endanger their life and those of other drivers and passengers on the road. One driver's failure to yield at an intersection recently resulted in a chain reaction of events that ended with one death and multiple injuries.
The commercial vehicle accident occurred around 8 a.m. along an Ohio highway when a 28-year-old female driving an SUV failed to yield at an intersection. As a result, the SUV was hit by a commercial tanker truck that was carrying fuel.
The initial crash between the SUV and commercial vehicle blocked the highway and resulted in an additional seven crashes. By the time police and first responders arrived at the massive accident scene, a total of 11 commercial trucks, one pickup truck and two cars were involved.
The 28-year-old female driver of the SUV involved in the initial crash with the tanker truck was declared dead at the accident scene. An additional nine other individuals involved in the multiple-vehicle crash were taken to area hospitals for medical treatment.
According to the accident report, dense fog was reported at the time of the crash and police believe visibility was poor. Road conditions, however, were clear and not believed to be a factor in contributing to the crashes.
This tragic accident serves as a reminder to Ohio residents of the importance of following traffic laws and adjusting driving habits when adverse weather or road conditions occur.
