All humans require food to eat. Accordingly each day individuals throughout the Pittsburgh area make their way to area grocery stores to purchase either ingredients for dishes or premade meals that only need to be heated before consuming. Either way, there is an expectation on the part of the consumer that the items purchased will not make them sick or otherwise inflict harm.
One of the most popular take and heat types of food is frozen pizza. Recently however several different types of pizza sold under the name Annie's were recently recalled. The reason behind the recall is not a problem with any of the ingredients listed on the package that are causing an illness. Instead, the problem is that there is a possibility that fragments of metal could have ended up in the crust.
The metal could be there because a piece of equipment at a flour mill that was grinding the flour used in the crust broke, sending pieces of metal into the product.
There are several different types of product defects that could lead to a products liability lawsuit. In addition to defects with the design or way in which a product is marketed to consumers, a manufacturing defect can be to blame. This is the case in this recall.
Annie's has indicated that so far no metal has been found in any of its pizza. In addition, as of yet no one has reported any physical problems due to the issue. Hopefully the voluntary recall will ensure that it doesn't happen.
