Accidents involving pedestrians and cars typically result in serious injuries or even death. One such recent pedestrian accident occurred on New Year's Eve and resulted in an Ohio man suffering a head injury and two shattered legs.
According to police reports, the accident occurred during the early morning hours on New Year's Day. At this time, police believe a 46-year-old man was riding his bicycle when a 27-year-old man driving a Lincoln Town car struck him.
The pedestrian and car accident occurred at an intersection when the 46-year-old bicyclist allegedly pulled into the path of the oncoming car. At that time, the 27-year-old driver struck the bicyclist. Rather than stopping to attend to the injured man, however, the 27-year-old sped off, leaving the 46-year-old on the side of the road.
The 46-year-old bicyclist was found around 3 a.m. The bicycle on which he had been riding had been thrown nearly 150 feet into the air as result of being struck. The man suffered a head injury, numerous scrapes and contusions as well as severe damage to both of his legs.
The 46-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital where he received immediate medical care for his many injuries. He has since been released and continues to undergo treatment at a rehabilitation center. His injuries, particularly those impacting his legs, will likely require months of physical and rehabilitative therapy to regain normal use.
Thankfully a license plate found at the accident scene helped police track down the 27-year-old man who struck the 46-year-old man. He is currently facing criminal charges. The 46-year-old man may also choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the 27-year-old to recover compensation related to medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
