Defective pots and pans recalled for burn and fire potential

While we often write about dangerous or defective automobiles and products used with children, these are by no means the only kinds of products that are the subject of recalls. It is possible for any product available for purchase in Pennsylvania or beyond, to inflict injury, including items commonly used such as cookware.

Earlier this month the Royal Prestige 9-Ply Thermal Wall Cookware series was recalled by the United State's business that imported it from Europe. In total, 10 different types of pots and pans are included in the recall. According to the recall information, the pans could start fires or inflict burns while being used due to their inability to withstand heat. This could happen when the cookware crimps or collapses. A total of 1,136 reports of something along these lines happening have occurred.

The cookware included in the recall was not available for purchase in stores. Instead, sets and individual pieces were made available from salespeople who sold the goods door-to-door. A total of 1.7 million pots and pans are included in the recall.

In at least one of the incidents reported, consumers were injured when burns were inflicted. This occurred when hot oil, which was in a pan on the stove which then collapsed, splattered on at least one person. Though the severity of the burns is not known, it is possible that the individuals involved in the incident could decide to seek monetary compensation in a products liability lawsuit. This could be helpful should the injury lead to large medical bills or force those individuals to have to radically change their lives.
