People of all ages are regularly told that they should drink more water to stay healthy. Accordingly, it is not uncommon to see individuals throughout Pittsburgh walking around with plastic and metal containers full of water. Within the past few years the fear of the liquid becoming contaminated with BPA has pushed may individuals away from plastic, to the metal bottles. Unfortunately there are dangers associated with these bottles as well.
According to a recent news report, children in particular are having issues with the bottles. The problem is that some children are getting their tongues stuck in the bottles while drinking. Thus far at least three children have encountered the issue.
One family who recently experienced this shared their story. A girl was taken to the hospital after she was unable to get her swollen tongue out of the bottle. When it was still stuck, even after the bottom of the bottle was cut off in the emergency room, the girl was forced to undergo surgery. After three hours the bottle and tongue were finally separated.
While the idea of getting a tongue stuck in a bottle may sound somewhat humorous, the reality is the outcome could be quite devastating. Doctors in the case of the young girl feared that she would either lose her tongue due to its tissue dying, or, in the alternative, suffocate.
As is the case in other situations where the use of a product leads to an injury it is possible that a products liability lawsuit could be filed.
