In the case of most jobs, there are upsides and downsides. Being a valet in the Pittsburgh area is not an exception. Depending on where one works it is possible that the individual could make good tips. They may also be provided the opportunity to driver very nice cars. The job can be dangerous though because one is surrounded by motor vehicles that are constantly being shuffled.
Earlier this month a valet was one of several pedestrians who were hit by a car as the vehicle attempted to leave a South Pittsburgh restaurant. Just prior to the incident the driver had reportedly been given her car by the injured valet. The incident apparently unfolded when the woman driving the vehicle hit the gas pedal while it was in reverse. One individual indicated that the car accelerated backwards between 30 and 40 miles per hour, striking the valet, another man, and a young woman.
Though the valet was injured in the incident the other two involved reportedly suffered more serious injuries. The vehicle allegedly ran over the legs of another man and struck a woman. Specifics regarding the injuries suffered are not known.
The woman behind the wheel of the car apparently stopped after the incident and answered questions from law enforcement. Whether any criminal charges will be pressed against her remains to be seen. It is also unclear whether she will become a defendant in any personal injury lawsuits. Depending on the severity of the injuries suffered by the victims it is a definite possibility.
