Pedestrians are everywhere virtually at all times of the day. Walking is such a normal part of everyday life for so many that few consider how dangerous it can actually be particularly when pedestrians interact with motor vehicles. Because of the dangers that exist for walkers, authorities in communities throughout the nation, including the Pittsburgh area, have created safety features for pedestrians such as crosswalks. Unfortunately, these do not always keep pedestrians safe.
Last month an individual who was in the process of crossing the street was injured when he was hit by a car. The incident took place in the Larimer neighborhood of Pittsburgh around 8:00 p.m. Authorities believe that the man had just set foot into the crosswalk located on Lincoln near where it intersects with Meadow Street. The pedestrian was seriously injured in the collision with injuries listed as critical.
Following the collision the driver left the scene in his or her vehicle.
Specifics regarding the injuries the pedestrian suffered are not known but in many of these types of crashes the injuries are catastrophic. The weight of the human body is nothing as compared to even the smallest motor vehicle which means that upon impact someone out walking who is hit by a car can be thrown like a ragdoll. Injuries suffered in a crash such as this can take a very long time to recover from.
It is almost certain that if the driver of the vehicle who struck the Pittsburgh man is caught, he or she will face criminal charges. In addition it is also very possible that the driver would face consequences in civil court as well. This would take the form of a personal injury lawsuit.
