Ohio woman recovers after pedestrian accident

Back in August, we wrote about a young Ohio State freshman who was struck by a drunk driver while crossing the street near campus. While most pedestrian accidents involving motor vehicles don't have happy endings, it appears in this case that the young woman has made a miraculous recovery.

As a result of the pedestrian accident, the young woman sustained numerous injuries including broken bones and a brain injury. She spent several days in the hospital in a coma and doctors were uncertain of her prognosis. As the days and weeks passed, however, the young woman emerged from the coma and made remarkable progress.

Motor vehicle accidents involving pedestrians often result in those pedestrians hit sustaining serious or fatal injuries. In this case, the young Ohio woman has made nearly a full recovery. The impact and memories of the accident, however, still linger.

After months spent recovering, the young woman plans to attempt to take a couple college courses spring semester. Doctors, however, have warned her that it may take a "little longer" to learn new things. The full extent of her brain injury will likely not be realized until later in life.

Today, the young woman is most looking forward to regaining her driver's license. Her license was suspended after the accident until doctors knew the full extent of damage suffered from the brain injury. When asked about the other student who hit her, the young woman expresses compassion.

Areas near college campuses are often crowded with pedestrians, bicycles and motor vehicles. In order to prevent pedestrian and car accidents, drivers would be wise to exercise extra caution when traveling near colleges and school zones.
