Another vehicle recall has been issued, this time by Honda. The recall involves a total of 800,000 minivans and SUVs being driven throughout the nation, undoubtedly including in the state of Pennsylvania.
The following vehicles are included in the recall:
- Odyssey minivans
- Pilot SUVs
- Acura MDX SUVs
The reason for the recall is the ability to remove the key used to start the vehicles from the ignition when it is in a gear other than park. This is a safety issue since placing the vehicle in park makes it so that the wheels will no roll. Obviously, if a vehicle can roll on its own, it is possible that injury producing accidents could occur.
Thus far the car maker indicates that it is aware of two situations resulting in minor injuries and knows of "a small number of related incidents." It is not clear just how many a small number is the equivalent of. Once the company begins to contact owners of the vehicles repairs will be made at no expense to the owners.
Motor vehicles are relied upon by millions throughout the nation transport people and things from one place to another. While all drivers are of course aware of their duty to follow the rules of the road for the benefit of all not only their own safety but the safety of those around them, there is an assumption that the vehicle they are driving is not a defective auto. When such defects result in injuries some find the best course of action to be filing a products liability lawsuit.
