A man who uses a wheelchair to get around was recently hurt when a car struck him as he made his way home from his place of employment located on Route 136in the Pittsburgh area. The home of the 74year-old man, who has been using a wheelchair for approximately 10 years, is next door to where he works.
The force of the impact sent the man flying through the air. After striking the man, the pickup did not stop, but continued on. It was determined by a portion of the vehicle that was left behind that it was a Nissan Titan that was involved in the collision.
Not surprisingly, the man in the wheelchair was seriously hurt in the car accident. In addition to a hip that was shattered, he also suffered nine broken ribs. He was transported via helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
The pickup belongs to a man who lives close to the scene and he was located a couple of hours after the incident. Authorities believe the owner had been drinking before the accident occurred, and that is why he did not remain at the scene.
The pickup driver's failure to stop after striking the man made an already bad situation worse. Accordingly, the criminal charges he will face will be much more serious. In addition to the criminal case one would assume that a personal injury lawsuit will be filed as well. While recovering from serious injuries such as these are difficult under the best circumstances, it is even harder when someone has underlying medical conditions.
