Most would agree that hit and run accidents add insult to what is already often an injurious situation. Nonetheless, they occur throughout the state of Pennsylvania on a regular basis. Late last month one such accident took place on the Parkway in Green Tree.
It appears that the crash occurred when a pickup truck hit another vehicle as it tried to merge into the lane in which the other vehicle was travelling. When it did so, it pushed the other vehicle into the center median made of concrete. At the time of the collision, both were driving east on the stretch of road.
The pickup truck did not stop after it struck the other vehicle. Instead, after successfully making it into the left lane, it drove on, leaving the other vehicle behind.
Fortunately, the occupants of the other car were not injured in the incident.
There are of course multiple reasons that drivers make the decisions they do. There are several common reasons those who are involved in a crash may decide to continue on their way, including:
- Not being aware that they hit another object
- Driving under the influence
- Having a warrant out for ones arrest
- Driving despite not having a valid driver's license
Whatever the reason for a person leaving the scene of a car accident, all should be aware that in addition to being rude, it is also illegal. Accordingly, when caught, someone who has left the scene of an accident could face both criminal and civil cases.
