UPMC sent letters to 2,000 patients according to boston.com this morning urging them to get tested for Hepatitis C. Kwiatkowski was arrested in New Hampshire last month after it was discovered that he had infected 31 patients with Hepatitis C.
It has now been reported that Kwiatkoski worked at UPMC Presby from March to May of 2008 and was fired for using Fentanyl syringes and replacing the Fentanyl with saline and putting the used needles back into circulation at UPMC Presby.
At that time UPMC did not call the authorities to alert them of his illegal drug use.
