Energizer Rotating Night Lights, sold exclusively at Target stores in Pennsylvania and throughout the U.S., have been recalled as they can overheat and smoke, creating a consumer burn hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission, working in cooperation with Target Corporation, issued the recall on August 22, 2012.
This defective product has generated nine reports of these night lights overheating. While there has been some minor property damage, no personal injuries have yet to be reported. Consumers are advised to stop using this defective product immediately. Retailers and consumers should be aware that it is illegal to resell or try to resell this product.
These rotating night lights are white with an LED light in the adjustable dome at the top. The model number is NLPLROT, with manufacture date codes between 0110 (January 2010) through 0111 (January 2011). Consumers will find the model number on the side of the product. The date codes can be found on the back of the product inside a circle.
The product was sold by Target from February 2010 through July 2012. The retail cost was around $6.00. These night lights were not manufactured by Energizer, but by Ningbo Sun-alps Industry Develop Co., LTD of China. Energizer merely imported and branded these products.
While no serious injuries or major property damage has yet been reported, the possibility exists for skin burns or potential property destruction. Consumers can contact Energizer (800) 383-7323 or visit their website (www.energizer.com) for an explanation of how to return the night lights and receive a $7.00 coupon for the purchase of another Energizer product.
Do you agree that the CPSC and Target are to be commended for doing the right thing before anyone is injured from this defective product? Do you know anyone who has been using these night lights without any problems?
