Track lighting from IKEA recalled, shock hazard cited

Many residents of Pittsburgh have furnished their home with goods from popular retailer IKEA. From couches to kitchen utensils and rugs, the store provides the necessities at a reasonable price. Individuals who purchased lighting fixtures from the retailer may want to read on. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission along with the retailer recently announced the recall of a track lighting system.

The defective product goes by the name IKEA 365 + SÄNDA track. Both the 28" and 45" tracks are included in the recall. The approximately 5,000 units sold throughout the United States, likely including in Pennsylvania, pose the risk of an electric shock due to a defect of the track. More specifically, there is a problem with the ground connection located within the track.

Thankfully, as of yet, no one has reported any injuries due to the product defect. Nonetheless, anyone who has installed the track lighting should not continue to use it. The retailer will either provide a replacement or refund of the purchase price.

There are of course many ways in which a dangerous product can injure someone. Some products present a laceration hazard. As was the case in our previous post, burns can also be the danger. These hazards, as is the case with shocks, have the potential to inflict serious injuries. In some cases the injuries could even lead to death.

When injuries or death result from a dangerous or defective product, it may be possible to secure compensatory damages. A products liability attorney can determine if it is worth pursuing.
