Children’s pajamas recalled due to flammability

All parents are likely aware that there is a multitude of ways in which children can be injured each day. Accordingly, mothers and fathers throughout the nation, including the Pittsburgh area go to sometimes great lengths to seek out products that will not cause any harm to their children. Unfortunately, despite the time and energy put into trying to do this, at times, dangerous children’s products still make their way into the marketplace and into the homes of families.

While there are many ways in which children can be injured several serious scenarios arise on a fairly regular basis. Lacerations, broken bones, suffocation, and burns are child injuries that are frequently heard about. Recently, a children’s product was recalled in an effort to avoid burn injuries. The item was pajamas.

The recall of the pajamas affects approximately 1,100 items that were sold throughout the country, over the course of a five-month period last year, between August and December. Though thankfully, no children using the product have been injured, the pajamas were recalled because they do not meet flammability standards which are issued by the federal government.

Made in China and imported by a company called My Clothes Inc., there are reportedly two styles of “PJs by My Clothes” included in the recall. The first, known as Style 14, is described as a long-sleeved cotton nightgown with ruffles, made from a polka dot cotton knit fabric. The other style, Style 15 or Style 314RG, is a two-piece set, constructed from a gingham cotton print. Both were available in a variety of sizes, from 12 months to size 14.

In addition, in August 2012, it was determined that some children’s pajamas sold by the online retailer PajamaGram, were dangerous products that do not meet the standards issued by the federal government regarding flammability. As a result, a voluntary recall was issued. Included in the recall are two different styles in sizes 12 months to 4T. The 100 percent polyester fleece pajamas recalled include two-piece sets as well as one-pieces that have feet and a hood.

The pajamas deemed to be dangerous were only available to purchase through a catalog or online. Approximately 12,000 of the garment sets were sold between September 2011 and March 2012.

While arguably any injury sustained due to the negligence of another person or entity is a horrible thing, this is particularly true when it comes to burns. In addition to being extremely painful, depending on the degree of the burn, once healed, the injury can leave behind horrible scars. No one wants to have their child go through that.

Thankfully, no children have been injured while wearing the pajamas. To make sure no injuries are sustained in the future, anyone whose children have been wearing the nightclothes is instructed to stop doing so. A refund or exchange is being offered by the importer of the product, PajamaGram.
