While no one wants to think about it, motorcycle accident fatalities are a possible reality for anyone who rides a motorcycle. Riders in the Pittsburgh area are not exempted from this. A 37-year-old man riding his Harley Davidson Softail down State Route 88 was sadly killed after he collided with a Chevrolet Malibu.
Police who responded to the accident scene reported that prior to the head-on crash, the motorcycle was going very fast. As the bike approached a turn in the roadway, the rider was unable to keep his motorcycle in the correct lane. It crossed into another lane where it ran into the car that was headed toward it.
The man suffered serious injuries in the crash which led to his death. Perhaps not surprising to some, the person who was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet was uninjured in the incident.
Most who ride motorcycles on a regular basis are aware of the risks that accompany the activity. They may however not be aware of legal options they or their loved ones may have when a serious or fatal accident does occur. Depending on the circumstances surrounding the accident, a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit may be appropriate.
It can take a long time to recover from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. The medical bills that accumulate while an individual is unable to work can be alarming. When successful, a personal injury lawsuit can provide the compensation necessary to cover them. When accidents are fatal, money recovered in a wrongful death action can make it easier for those left behind to move forward with their lives.
