Riding a motorcycle can be a great way to spend a warm summer day. However, motorcyclists can become the victim of inattentive driving in an instant. A recent motorcycle accident, which could be the result of an inattentive driver, has left one Ohio man injured.
The 73-year-old man was riding his motorcycle on a state road near Youngstown, while being followed by a woman driving a sedan. The biker began to slow down to take a right turn, but the woman did not apply her brakes in time. As a result, she rear-ended the man.
Immediately after the accident occurred, emergency service personnel were called to the scene. The motorcyclist was airlifted to a hospital in Youngstown to be treated for his injuries. At the time of reports, his condition was not known. The woman was not injured in the crash.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances behind the accident. Since they have not reached any solid conclusions, no charges have been filed as of yet.
As soon as law enforcement officials release the results of their investigation, the injured man will have a better understanding of his legal rights. If the report indicates that the other driver was responsible for causing the accident, the man may consider filing a civil claim against the woman.
Anytime a party's negligence harms another person, there is a chance that a personal injury suit can be brought to court. A knowledgeable legal professional would be able to provide an accurate assessment of liability in a motor vehicle accident.
The hope is that the motorcyclist will make a full, speedy recovery, but he may have a long road back to full health. This biker's situation is a perfect demonstration how dangerous the road can be for motorcyclists. If other motorists fail to pay attention, even just for a moment, the consequences can be catastrophic.
