Black & Decker coffee maker recalled after injuries reported

For many residents of Western Pennsylvania, the only way to start one's day properly is with a large cup of steaming hot coffee. Those who brew and consume theirs from a specific Black & Decker coffee maker may want to think twice about making and drinking coffee from the device. This is because a voluntary recall has been issued for approximately 159,000 of the brand's coffee makers.

The specific coffee maker that is being recalled, due to a being a defective product, is called the Black & Decker® SpacemakerTM 12-Cup Programmable Under-the-Cabinet Coffee maker. The reason indicated for the recall is problems reported with handles breaking. Thus far, the business has learned of over 1,275 injuries. The injured parties appear to have received burns of cuts. At this point, the business has learned of 68 such injuries.

Each day consumers purchase and use a variety of goods, many designed to make our lives easier. While using these products it is doubtful that many put much thought into sustaining an injury as a result. Nonetheless, as this recall and numerous others illustrates, it can, and does happen more often than most want to acknowledge.
