While it is sad when anyone dies in a car accident, it is particularly upsetting when the person who dies is a child. Sadly the family of a 6-year-old boy from Aspinwall, Pennsylvania, is facing this fate. They are mourning the death of the little boy who was a passenger in a car that was involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident.
The collision took place on Route 28 earlier this week. According to a firefighter with the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department, it happened when the vehicle, in which the boy was riding, along with three other passengers, hit a pickup truck.
All of the people in the car the child was in were injured in the crash. The 6-year-old, along with another child, was taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. It was there that the young boy died. The two adults in the car, who were thought to be the boy's parents, were taken to a different hospital. Though all three of the passengers survived the crash, the nature and extent of their injuries is unknown. At this point there is no information on the occupants of the pickup truck.
Immediately following the accident, authorities were not sure why the two vehicles collided or who was at fault.
The family of the boy is likely stunned by the turn of events. In addition to having to heal from their own physical injuries, they also must now come to terms emotionally with the death of the young child. Should the driver of the pickup truck be found responsible for the accident, the family may decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit against that person. They could also file personal injury lawsuits on their own behalf. While any money recouped in a successful lawsuit would not bring the child back, it could make it easier for all to rebuild after the tragedy.
