A vigil is being held tonight in honor of a Youngstown, Ohio, mother that was killed almost two weeks ago while crossing the street after attending her high school reunion gathering. The gathering was at a bar on Glenwood Avenue, which was also close to the scene of the accident. The accident occurred at roughly two in the morning on Mar. 4.
The 53-year-old pedestrian accident victim is survived by her daughter who is quoted as saying, "My mother was a victim of something that could have been prevented." As reported by the victim's daughter, the scene of the accident did not have sufficient lighting or a cross walk. Had these things been in place or a pedestrian safety system such as the example from a previous post, maybe the victim would have survived. For the remainder of this child's life she will be without a mother.
There is nothing that can be done to change this fact. However, victims, such as the daughter of the 53-year-old Youngstown woman, can pursue compensation. While compensation will not reunite the daughter with her mother, it may work toward giving the child some sense of closure and affirmation of her pain and inevitable suffering.
The driver of this pedestrian did come forward to authorities and charges against the driver are currently reported as pending.
The family and friends of the woman that was killed will gather in the victim's honor tonight in the parking lot of the bar where the victim enjoyed her last moments with her former classmates.
