Man steals car and crashes into bus in Pittsburgh

The driver of a vehicle that hit a Port Authority bus yesterday morning is missing and police are searching for him. The motor vehicle accident in which he was involved occurred in North Pittsburgh on Penfort Street, close to its intersection with Essen Street.

The driver of the car that hit the bus reportedly believed that he was going to be pulled over by a police officer who was on a motorcycle. When the motorcycle passed him, he tried to flee. The reason the man was worried was that he was driving a stolen car.

When he fled, he hit another vehicle after first running over a median. About a mile later he ran into the bus.

After the accident the man fled on foot.

The only occupant on the bus at the time of the collision was the driver. He was reportedly injured in the incident and was taken to the Allegheny General Hospital. Fortunately, the injuries to his back and neck are apparently not serious. Clearly, if the bus had been full at the time of the collision, the outcome could have been much worse.

A fair amount of motor vehicle accidents that occur on a daily basis are just that-accidents with no clear person to blame. Other accidents however are due to the negligent behavior of individuals. Crashes that are the result of illegal activities are particularly frustrating for all since they would not have occurred had the person been following the laws of the land.

Should the police locate the man who stole the car and then hit the bus he most certainly will face criminal charges. The driver of the bus he hit may also take legal action against him via a civil personal injury lawsuit.
