If some Pennsylvania legislators get their way, dentists throughout the state will face a change to their businesses. Last year, a bill was introduced that would require every dentist in the state of Pennsylvania to purchase malpractice insurance. Known as SB 388, it passed the Senate unanimously.
Now the bill is with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Members of the house recently heard testimony from three patients who had a bad experience with one particular dentist. Their former dentist reported charged patients large amounts of money to perform procedures that he was apparently incapable of actually performing.
Every day residents throughout the state of Pennsylvania learn that they need dental work completed, beyond routine cleanings. As is the case when someone goes to the doctor to be treated, there is an expectation by the dental patient that the issue will be addressed and no harm will be inflicted. This, of course, is not always the case.
When a patient is harmed as a result of the negligence of anyone hired to provide a medical or dental care, that patient may be able to seek financial compensation from the health care provider. Medical malpractice cases can be brought for a variety of reasons including actions or omissions, and be brought against many different individuals and entities.
These cases are often complex and have certain time restraints that must be paid attention to. For that reason it is a good idea for anyone considering filing such a lawsuit consult an experienced medical malpractice attorney.
