Trucks are necessary in our society. In addition to transporting goods that we all rely on, they are also utilized in the performance of other functions necessary in society such as keeping roads safe by distributing salt. Of course, as is the case with any motor vehicle, accidents involving trucks can result in serious injuries, sometimes even death.
A Pittsburgh man died after colliding with a PennDOT salt truck earlier this week. The motor vehicle accident occurred this past Tuesday morning, a little before 7:00 a.m. After the car he was driving rear-ended the salt-spreading truck, it was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.
While the fact that a salt truck was in use on the road at the time of the accident indicates that road was likely slippery, it is unclear if that is what caused the car to hit the PennDOT truck. It is however believed that the semitrailer may have hit the car as a result of not seeing it. The car's lights were stripped from the vehicle in the first collision.
The accident took place on a stretch of Interstate 376 located in Pulaski Township.
After the colliding with the two vehicles, the 40-year-old man who was driving the car that was involved was seriously injured in the crashes. So seriously in fact, that he sadly died at the scene. It does not appear that anyone else was hurt in the crashes.
According to the police who responded to the accident, there are no plans to cite either the driver of the PennDOT salt truck or the person behind the wheel of the tractor-trailer.
