The passenger in a car involved in a motor vehicle accident earlier this week died as a result of her injuries. According to state police, the woman was riding in a Mercury Sable as it traveled down Route 21 around 7:00 p.m. At the same time, a Chevy Lumina coming from the opposite direction attempted to make a turn onto a Work Parkway Road. When it did so, it drove into the path of the Mercury. Police indicate that the Chevy was trying to make the turn against the traffic light.
After the accident, the 85-year-old woman was transported to Uniontown Hospital. It was there that she later died.
The occupants of the Chevy, a 20-year-old man and woman were also hurt in the accident. Their injuries were minor however. It is unclear if the person driving the car in which the 85-year-old woman was a passenger was injured in the accident.
The accident closed the stretch of road for some time. The accident scene was cleaned-up and an investigation was conducted. At this point it is not known if the man driving the Chevy will be charged with any crimes.
Car accidents occur regularly throughout the state of Pennsylvania. There are many potential reasons that they occur. These reasons include both things that are inside and outside of the control of the drivers involved. This accident appears to be an example of something the driver had control over-following the rules of the road. If the man driving the Chevy had not attempted to make a turn against the stop light, the accident would likely not have occurred.
