Ikea, the world famous Scandinavian furniture dealer, has been summoned to recall nearly 169,000 "ANTILOP High Chairs" for infants because the product's seat belt, or "restraint buckle," can detach and give young children the ability to stand up and fall from the chair.
Worldwide to date, Ikea has received eight reports of these restraint buckles opening unexpectedly. Three of those reports include instances where children were injured after falling out of the high chair.
Nearly 133,000 high chairs are being recalled in the United States and almost 36,000 are being called for in Canada. This recall includes Ikea "ANTILOP High Chairs" that come in red, white, or blue. The chair is bought unassembled and has four light, detachable steel legs. The high chair tray does not come with the product, but is sold separately.
The manufacturing date of these high chairs extends from July of 2006 until November of 2009. The supplier number is 17389. One can find the production date (e.g. 0607 or 0911=YearYearMonthMonth) and supplier number on the underside of the seat. The word ANTILOP and the model number should be printed on a label that is also connected to the underside of the seat. These chairs were sold at Ikeas nationwide from August of 2006 until January of 2010.
The following model numbers are included in the recall:
- ANTILOP High Chair-red model# 501.467.93
- ANTILOP High Chair-white model# 300.697.24
- ANTILOP High Chair-blue model# 701.467.92
