A man was taken to Allegheny General Hospital after a hit-and-run on Route 28 near Pittsburgh at around 1:40 a.m. early Monday morning. Police have since reported that they arrested the suspected hit-and-run driver shortly thereafter just off Washington Street in Etna. The unidentified driver will now face charges of drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police did not identify the motorist whose car was struck by the drunk driver, but did say that he was conscious and alert when Cherry City and Bauerstown volunteer department firefighters recovered him from the totaled vehicle. The man was reportedly taken to AGH immediately, but the nature and severity of his injuries are still unknown.
As the holidays have come and gone and the long winter months are approaching it is no secret that alcohol mixed with driving and dangerous road surfaces can be detrimental to other responsible drivers who drive cautiously and with care. Roads such as Rt. 28, Rt. 19, Rt. 65, I-376, I-279, and I-79 can be especially threatening.
If you see someone on the road that you think may be intoxicated it is always best to report the make, model, and license plate number to police; however, if you have been in an accident due to the negligence of a driver who has been operating his or her vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol then the attorneys at Dallas Hartman, P.C. can help.
